Andris Nelsons conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and leads the Boston Symphony Orchestra alongside frequent collaborator Kirill Gerstein in the U.S. premiere of Francisco Coll’s Piano Concerto.

Nelsons last led the work with the BSO in January 2025, when The Boston Musical Intelligencer hailed the performance as “spot-on” and a high point of his ongoing Beethoven cycle.

Co-commissioned by the BSO and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Coll’s concerto received its world premiere in spring 2026 with Gerstein and the BRSO under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. A former protégé of Thomas Adès, the Spanish composer has earned international acclaim for works marked by visceral energy and vivid orchestral color. Bookending the program are two Beethoven masterworks: the dramatic Coriolan Overture and the joyful, kinetic Seventh Symphony.

Performances run from October 8 through 10 at Symphony Hall.
