Beethoven’s 9th turns 200

Today marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s 9th symphony. To celebrate, four orchestras and four conductors will perform Beethoven’s monumental masterpiece across Europe, broadcast by ARTE and ORF.

Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig will play the Symphony at the Gewandhaus, with the 1st movement transmitted live as part of the event. The other orchestras taking part are the Orchestre de Paris under Klaus Mäkelä, the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala under Riccardo Chailly, and the Wiener Symphoniker under Petr Popelka.
