On tour with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig

This August and September, Gewandhauskapellmeister Andris Nelsons and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra embark on a European tour. Featuring a variety of composers and esteemed guest artists, the orchestra will make stops in the UK, Spain, France, Austria, and Germany.

On August 24 at the Wolkenturm in Grafenegg, Austria, the orchestra is joined by violinist Hilary Hahn for Dvořák’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A minor, and will also perform Pärt’s Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2 in D major. The orchestra plays the same program on August 26 at London’s Royal Albert Hall as part of BBC Proms, on August 28 at Palacio de Congresos y Auditorio Kursaal in San Sebastian, Spain, on August 30 in Palacio de Festivales Cantabria in Santander, Spain, on September 2 at Paris’ Cité de la musique, and the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig on September 5 and 7

Nelsons and the orchestra will alternate that program with a concert featuring Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony, No. 5, and Brahms’ stunning Ein Deutsches Requiem, featuring soprano Julia Kleiter and baritone Christian Gerhaher. Audiences can experience those performances on August 29 at the Palacio de Congresos y Auditorio Kursaal, August 31 at Palacio de Festivales Cantabria, September 3 at the Cité de la musique.
