Andris Nelsons, GHO and BSO present 2025 Shostakovich Festival Leipzig

This week, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and the Boston Symphony Orchestra announced the programme for the Shostakovich Festival Leipzig in 2025. Under the artistic direction of Andris Nelsons, the two orchestras will be presenting an ambitious survey of Dmitri Shostakovich’s works from 15 May – 1 June 2025, including all of the composer’s symphonies, two performances of the opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at the Leipzig Opera, as well as chamber music and solo concerto performances. This marks a continuation of Andris Nelsons’ close relationship with Shostakovich’s music, which has had a huge impact on the conductor’s life and career. It also presents a further collaboration of both of Nelsons’ orchestras, which have been partnered under the BSO/GHO Alliance for a number of years.
