Andris Nelsons conducts the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert 2020

Andris Nelsons closes out the year conducting the Vienna Philharmonic’s historic New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day concerts. Mr. Nelsons has worked with the Vienna Philharmonic since 2010, and he is a regular guest at the subscription concerts in the Vienna Musikverein and at the Salzburg Festival, as well as on tours in Europe, Asia, and the USA.

2020 marks Nelsons’ first time to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert. In the same year, a Beethoven Cycle with Nelsons and the Vienna Philharmonic will be released on CD and performed in concerts in Vienna and abroad. Concert dates include December 31 and January 1 at the Musikverein. The 2020 New Year’s Concert will be broadcast in over 90 countries and followed by as many as 40 million television viewers around the world. PBS’ Great Performances series will air the concert on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at 2:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings).

The concert program will consist of the lively and yet nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the Strauss family and its contemporaries, including Strauss’ Radetzky March, op. 228, which was first performed in a Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert on January 1, 1946. More information about this global event is available via the Vienna Philharmonic.
