Adès, Holst, and Beethoven in Leipzig

Andris Nelsons conducts the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, where he is Gewandhauskapellmeister, in two December concerts, highlighting works by Thomas Adès, Gustav Holst, and Ludwig van Beethoven. On December 19 and 20, Nelsons leads the orchestra in America (A Prophecy), Adès’ bold 1999 work, featuring mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Connor, as well as Holst’s beloved masterwork, The Planets. On December 29, 30, and 31, Nelsons “conducts Beethoven’s celebrated Ninth Symphony. The performance also features an acclaimed lineup of soloists, including soprano Emily Magee, mezzo-soprano Gerhild Romberger, tenor Werner Güra, and bass Ain Anger.
