Scriabin & Shostakovich with the Berliner Philharmoniker

On June 20, 21 & 22, Andris Nelsons conducts the Berliner Philharmoniker and pianist Daniil Trifonov at the Philharmonie. Nelsons will lead a program including one of Scriabin’s early works, the Piano Concerto, featuring Mr. Trifonov, and concluding is Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11.

Scriabin’s only true concerto, the Piano Concerto, was composed when he was 24, a time that he was much inspired by Chopin’s poetic pianism and orchestral mannerisms. Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11, was written during a bleak period for the composer, mainly because of his wife Nina Varzar’s passing. Labeled by many as the “embodiment of the doctrine of Social Realism” the symphony was explicitly written for the 40th-anniversary celebration of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

The performance on June 22 will be streamed live via the Digital Concert Hall, beginning at 19:00 (CEST).  Learn more information here.
